renaissance learning tests
Students in 1st grade completed their first round of computer testing in October using the program from Renaissance Learning called Star Reading, Star Early Literacy and Star Math. Results are used by classroom teachers to plan classroom activities and interventions. Results are also shared with parents at Parent/Teacher Conferences.
Wixie, a program from Tech4Learning is a drawing / painting / slideshow program. Students took a quiz in September on computer terms using Wixie. A review of the computer term followed the quiz.
Eric Carle is one of my favorite children's illustrators. Since we live in DeKalb, students in first grade illustrated and narrated a version of his "Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What do you See?" with our version of "What We See on the Farm". Please click on the links below to open Wixie and view their story. (These will come later this year!)
Students in Kindergarten through 8th grade participate in a nationwide project called The Hour of Code. This is a program created by big names in the computer industry to get young children interested in computer programming. The Hour of Code occurs the 2nd week in December. There are several different grade level appropriate tutorials that the students complete during a one hour technology class. Following The Hour of Code, students continue to focus on computer programming in tech class using the website Code.org and Scratch.mit.org. Please click on the links to learn more about these wonderful programs.
